The Minnesota Department of Transportation says the detour for Highway 22 south of Mankato will be removed by 5:00 p.m. Friday, just in time for the Fall Festival.

Three legs of the new Highway 22 and Blue Earth County Road 90 roundabout opened earlier this week, but MnDOT officials say wet conditions postponed the finishing work south of the roundabout.

Only an additional two sections of guardrail are remaining on the project and transportation officials say that will take place under traffic with the use of flaggers in early November.

Highway 22 from Mankato to Mapleton has been under construction since 2017 and included reconstruction of the highway from just north of Mapleton to Blue Earth County Road 15 and a bridge replacement over the Cobb River in Beauford.
