All four lanes of Highway 60 from Windom to Mountain Lake opened to traffic Thursday.

Officials with MnDOT’s District 7 says that means the highway is now four lanes from the Iowa border to Mankato. Construction to convert Highway 60 to four-lanes began over 50 years ago.

Permanent lane markings and final turf establishment will still need to be finished next year. The segment of the expansion had a price tag $19,700,000.

The Southwest Highway 60 Corporation is hosting a celebration of the completed corridor on Friday, December 14, with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting that will take place at 11:00 a.m. at the Gathering Church in Bingham Lake and a luncheon and program of speeches to follow.
