The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch that will be in effect Saturday morning through Sunday afternoon.
Meteorologists say heavy snow is possible in areas that include Redwood Falls, New Ulm, St Peter, St James, Le Sueur, Faribault, and Mankato with snow accumulations of 8 to 14 inches and winds gusting as high as 40 mph. They add, though, that widespread blizzard conditions are not expected.
In the Waseca, Owatonna, Fairmont, and Blue Earth areas, forecasters are expecting heavy mixed precipitation with snow accumulations of 6 to 10 inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze possible and winds that could gust as high as 45 mph.
The weather service says travel could be very difficult and patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.
