Now that the state legislature has finally approved receiving $6.6 million in federal election security funding, what is the money being used for?
“We will be taking on what’s called a cyber navigator, this is a person who will assist counties and local governments in their own election cybersecurity. This will be a person critically important because we are only as strong as our weakest link system-wide.”
Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon says some of the money will also be used to modernize the state’s main election database. Minnesota had been the only state in the country not to accept the money, prior to its approval in the special legislative session.
