The Better Business Bureau of Minnesota is seeing a rise in fake websites that are scamming would-be pet owners out of money.

“People are finding cute pets online and contacting the sellers, the sellers make it seem like they are legitimate animals that for sale and they eventually ask the would-be pet owners to wire money over and the would-be pet owners never receive a pet.”

The BBB’s Bess Ellenson says the best way to avoid this scam is to only buy a pet after meeting the animal and the breeder or owner face-to-face.
