The former Blue Earth County departments of Taxpayer Services and Environmental Services have consolidated into one entity, which will now be known as the Property and Environmental Resources Department.
Due to staff changes at the end of 2018, the County Board decided to consolidate the two departments in order to make services they provide stronger. The single, more effective department has a common mission of providing the most efficient customer service possible. The two former departments have always worked closely because many processes cross-over as staff serve the same customer.
The new department will be structured into three divisions:
- Property and Land: focused on property valuation, mapping and data, drainage management, water resources, wells and septic systems, and planning and zoning.
- Services and Records: focused on elections, passports, taxation, and real estate recording.
- Waste and Recycling: focused on garbage/solid waste, recycling, hazardous waste, and special waste.
The now-consolidated department is looking forward to easier collaboration and offering a better customer experience. Until the completion of the Government Center building and renovation project, the Property and Environmental Resources Department is located in the Historic Courthouse.
