“Operation Dry Water” kicks off today and runs through Sunday. The DNR’s Lisa Dugan says there will be extra patrols on the water targeting intoxicated boaters. She says before heading out designate a sober skipper:

“Hopefully, it’s everybody is out on the water having a good time and able to be aware of the extra stressors on the water. The sun, wind, noise, vibrations — and all of that stuff can intensify the effects of alcohol if you do choose to drink on the water. So just have a little bit of awareness in the back of your head.”

In 2018 alcohol was a factor in half of the deadly boating accidents in the state.
