Story-Telling Competition
June-July
In a Universe full of Stories, what’s your story? The North Mankato Taylor Library wants to hear your story! In the months of June and July we are holding a story-telling contest! Submit your entry to Hallie in person or over email at [email protected]. Entries will be accepted in all of June and July and a winner will be chosen at the beginning of August. Entries can include short stories, poems, comics/graphic novels or a sample of a book. Entries must include your name and phone number. All ages can participate!


Apollo Party

Help us celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 Mission! We will have themed food, music, games and more! Open to ages 11-18. No registration required.

VR Headset Simulators
Tuesday, July 16th 2-4pm
Police Annex
Sign up for a time to experience something truly out of this world! We will have VR Headset Simulators available to those who register and each person will get a chance to transport themselves to a different world! Open to ages 11-18. Registration required. Registration opens July 9th.

Music in the Park: Nate Boots

Join us in Storybook Park (across from the library for music, food, kids activities and more! Bring your lawn chair or a blanket and enjoy a fun community night with local musical talent.

Ice Cream Social

Binary Bracelets
Wednesday, July 24th 2-4pm
North Mankato Taylor Library
Binary code is the “language” used to communicate information between computers, communication devices and many other types of modern technologies including those used in space. Come to the library anytime between 2-4pm to make a bracelet that spells out your name or any other secret message in binary. Open to ages 11-18. No registration required.

Adult Spelling Bee
Tuesday, July 23rd 7-9pm doors open at 6pm
LocAle Brewing
The North Mankato Taylor Library would like to invite you to our first ever Adult Spelling Bee! Tickets are $15 per person on teams of 3-4 people. Tickets for audience members are $5 at the door. All team members must be 21 or older to participate. Teams will be allowed to work together to spell words and will use a whiteboard for their final answer. Registration includes a drink ticket if registered before July 15th. (Non-alcoholic drinks also available.) Registration forms and rules are available at the library and on the library’s Facebook page. Registration forms and payment can be returned to the library in person or sent via mail to 1001 Belgrade Ave, North Mankato, MN 56003. Extras include over 100 prizes to be given out randomly during the spelling bee. Prizes for best team name and best attire/costumes. The grand prize will be a “Night Out Package.” Teams can also purchase up to three cheats with registration. We are combining the teens with the tweens once again for this Free Food Friday. After enjoying pizza, teens (ages 13-18) will compete against the tweens (ages 9-12) in a game of capture the flag in Storybook Park. Open to ages 9-18. Registration required. Registration opens July 19th.
