This week Hennepin County became the 39th Minnesota city or county to raise their tobacco sale age to 21. Edina was the first city to enact such a rule two years ago and Laura Smith with ClearWay Minnesota says…

“We’re really pleased to see the growing support for this measure, you know we have everywhere from Duluth to Olmstead County to Ottertail County and Beltrami and Bemidji, so we’re really seeing this growing movement.”

Smith says once the Hennepin County changes go into effect next January, a total of 1.5 million Minnesotans will be covered by Tobacco 21, which is nearly 28% of the population.
