Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman today announced criminal sexual conduct charges against musician R Kelly involving an underage girl in Minneapolis. The charges involve:
“Engaging in prostitution with an individual under 18 years of age, and one for hiring or offering to hire for sexual purposes with a person under 18.”
Freeman says the charges stem from an incident in July 2001. Freeman says the victim was under 18 at the time and was trying to get an autograph from R Kelly when he gave the girl his phone number. The girl later met with Kelly at a Minneapolis hotel and was offered $200 to undress and dance for him. She complied. R Kelly is currently in custody in New York facing federal charges for sexually exploiting young women.
