“Right now we’re at a place where there’s such a strong culture of white nationalism and white power that is controlling a lot of the culture in a really dangerous way and that can lead to more violence.”

Lucero says there are “systems and structures” in place that perpetuate discrimination and that while incidents like the mass shooting in El Paso draw immediate attention to the issue of discrimination, it will take constant work to improve the situation.
