Kevin Buisman, Minnesota State’s Director of Athletics, has announced that Scott Nelsen has been named Director of Marketing and Community Engagement.

Nelsen, who has served as an assistant vice president and the Lake Crystal Market Manager for MinnStar Bank since 2014, has worked previously with the Mavericks, serving as the assistant director of athletic communications from 2006-2012. In addition to serving on the Minnesota State Hoops Club Board since 2014, Nelsen is a member of several local community service groups including the Downtown Kiwanis, Feeding our Communities Partners, Kiwanis Holiday Lights, Greater Mankato Growth Young Professionals and is a graduate of the GMG Leadership Institute.
A 2003 graduate of Peru State University (Neb.), Nelsen attained a master’s degree from Minnesota State in 2007.

In his role as Director of Marketing and Community Engagement, Nelsen will be charged with organizing and executing multi-marketing and fundraising events for the Mavericks, along with overseeing game experience and promotional activities.

“Scott emerged from an excellent pool of candidates for this position and we’re extremely excited to welcome him back to the Maverick Family,” said Buisman. “It’s our belief that his experience, skill set and relationships within the Greater Mankato community are going to serve us well in advancing Minnesota State Athletics.”

A native of Ringsted, Iowa, Nelsen and his wife Lisa reside in North Mankato with their children – Nolan and Rylie.
