As officials investigate an outbreak of E. coli infections associated with the State Fair, the Minnesota Health Department’s Joni Scheftel says…

“It’s just important to get the word out so people don’t spread this to other people if they have it, and also doctors can take the proper action. This happens to be one of those infections where antibiotics really don’t help, in fact they make it more likely to get HUS.”

HUS stands for Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome–which can be life-threatening. All 11 people who are confirmed to have the infection visited the Miracle of Birth Center between August 25th and September 2nd. Anyone who feels as though they were impacted by the infection is urged to contact a physician and the state Health Department.
