A series of hearings have been held at the capital in St. Paul regarding the Minnesota Department of Human Services. DHS has been under scrutiny after misspending one hundred million dollars in funds. State Senator Julie Rosen of Vernon Center is the chair of the Senate Finance Committee. She says the situation is a sign that lawmakers and the public are expecting more accountability from the government.

“We’ve seen this trend in other departments,” said Rosen. “We all need to help fix this and hold government accountable for how they spend the taxpayer’s money.”

Rosen says they’re not afraid to spend money, but they want to make sure dollars are being spent right.
