What do educators want Minnesota lawmakers to accomplish this year? Mankato schools superintendent Paul Peterson says with this being a non-budget year their requests are primarily policy-based.

“Our priorities will center on topics such as school safety, transportation, and special education,” said Peterson. “We just want lawmakers to keep putting our kids first.”

Peterson says if the state does enact some new policies, he wants lawmakers to provide the funding to go along with any new laws.

“If there are any new policies with funding requirements, we want the legislature to keep that in mind as they’re making those policy decisions”, said Peterson.

Lawmakers approved a two-percent increase in state funding last session.
