Temporarily expand sick leave benefits and unemployment insurance for workers — part of a package of bills that Democrats in the Minnesota House are introducing in response to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.   House Speaker Melissa Hortman says it’s no secret that Democrats and Republicans have very different opinions on paid sick time:

“The question that we are putting on the table now is, under certain circumstances, for a limited duration, would there be some flexibility in their position on these issues if it’s in the public interest?”

Republican leaders weren’t immediately available for comment. Other bills Democrats propose would require health plans cover testing, treatment and quarantine costs related to COVID-19… would ban price-gouging on goods and services… and provide low-interest loans to health providers.
