Minnesota Governor Tim Walz signed an executive order Monday extending the state peacetime emergency for 30 days until May 13th. The New House Republican Caucus introduced a resolution to end the peacetime regulation. Walz says he wants to open the economy but do so in a safe way.

“We all want to open the economy up tomorrow, but people will die if we do so,” said Walz.

Walz was asked what’s the pathway to re-opening the economy?

“The only way this will happen is wide-spread testing, tracing, and isolation,” said Walz. “We need to get to a point where we can push a full-court press on it.”

Legislative Republicans say the resolution is an opportunity to strike a proper balance between protecting public health and revitalizing a slowing economy.
