This week is Severe Weather Awareness Week in the state of Minnesota. A statewide tornado drill will be held today. State Commissioner of Homeland Security and Emergency Management Joe Kelly says two tornado drills will be held.
“One in the afternoon when most of us would normally be at work or school,” said Kelly. “And another in the evening where most of us would be at home. We do that because we take different actions depending on where we are. But wherever you are the drill is the same. Take Cover. Get Information.”
Kelly says the afternoon drill will begin at 1:45 and the evening drill will begin at 6:45. Kelly says with the reduced staff due to COVID-19, the National Weather Service will not be activating NOAA Weather Radio and decisions on whether or not to sound a storm siren will be up to the local municipality.
