The African American Tobacco Control Leadership Council is going after the U-S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to compel the FDA to ban the sale of menthol tobacco products. Minnesotans for a Smoke-Free Generation supports the move and spokeswoman Laura Smith says…

“So right now there’s been understandably a focus on black lives and black health and what we can do to better protect those things and we know that menthol tobacco addiction is the leading cause of disease, suffering and death among African Americans.”

Since 2010, menthol has been the only flavor of cigarettes allowed in the U-S. So far, 16 Minnesota communities have restricted flavored tobacco products in some form.
