The Minnesota Department of Health is pushing back on the idea of so-called “COVID Parties.”

“Presumably, as a way to get COVID at a time that may be more convenient to them.”

While there are no indications that any such party has taken place in Minnesota, MDH Infectious Disease Director Kris Ehresman says they represent a small, but real, risk that COVID could lead to significant complications, no matter your age or health.

“If you’re thinking, let’s just do this and get it over with, its really playing Russian roulette.”

Ehresmann says attending a “COVID Party” would bring the added risk of spreading the disease after infection to someone who may be more at risk.

Ehresmann stresses no one should be intentionally seeking out an infection.
