A new state House committee is addressing racial justice. The committee was set up in the wake of recent unrest after the killing of George Floyd and as a result of lawmakers earlier this year deeming racism a public health crisis.
“We know that the public health crisis did not begin in 2020, we are grappling with centuries of systemic racism. While we know we cannot undo over 400 years of systemic racism in a single committee, this committee is an important first step forward.”
Committee Co-Chair Representative Ruth Richardson of Mendota Heights. The committee also received a presentation on maternal-child health mortality and morbidity at its first hearing on Tuesday.
