State lawmakers are planning to return to St. Paul in June for a special session. On Monday, Governor Tim Walz and legislative leaders touted a budget agreement as the clock ticked down on the regular session, but Carleton College political science professor Steven Schier says finalizing the details might be easier said than done…

“What was announced yesterday was a two-page statement with spending totals for 12 spending bills all of which have to be negotiated between the state House and state Senate.”

Schier says major policy differences remain on both sides, and it remains to be seen how those may impact the special session.
