Top Republicans question the effectiveness of giving people incentives to be vaccinated against COVID, as Governor Tim Walz this afternoon (Thurs) announces state park passes, fishing licenses, and fair and amusement park tickets will be among premiums available to the first 100 thousand vaccinated beginning this weekend.   Senate Republican Majority Leader Paul Gazelka says it’s a good idea to get everyone who should be vaccinated into that category — however…

“I don’t know that more incentives are gonna drive people to that.  There are a number of people that just don’t want to get a vaccine and I don’t think they need to.  I’m glad that we said that you don’t have to have a vaccine passport and we didn’t mandate it.”

State Republican Party Chair Jennifer Carnahan says  instead of enticing people to get vaccinated with “free gifts” using taxpayer money, Governor Walz should work to remove excessive unemployment benefits, which she says are incentivizing people to stay home.
