The trend is not good as Minnesota enters the hundred-busiest days on its roads:  Traffic fatalities are up significantly due to lagging seatbelt use and people speeding.  Mike Hanson with the state Office of Traffic Safety:

“We’re slipping backwards and, starting last year with the onset of the pandemic and everything that’s gone with that, we’ve seen just a huge increase in the risk-taking behavior that’s taking place on our roads.”

Stepped up seatbelt enforcement is under way through June 6th, and officers are also watching for speeders, distracted driving and impaired drivers.
