After a Memorial Day breather, state lawmakers are back at hammering out details of the budget before a planned June 14th special session.  There are major policy disagreements to resolve — over police reform, the governor’s emergency powers, unemployment benefits and “clean car” standards, to name just a few:

“There’s a number of things that we are both entrenched in, that we have to navigate our way through — and so, that’s what makes it tough.”

…Senate Republican Majority Leader Paul Gazelka.  House Speaker, Democrat Melissa Hortman says the goal is to agree on policy-related issues by this Friday:

…”so then it can be publicly posted and heard in the public before we convene for the special session on June 14th.”

Whether legislative leaders meet that goal remains to be seen.
