A D-W-I arrest with the driver unbuckled and four young children unbuckled in the back seat… a driver stopped and cited, with a three-year-old standing on the back seat looking out the window — among the situations Minnesota law enforcement encountered during a two-week seatbelt enforcement campaign bracketing Memorial Day. Mike Hanson with the state Office of Traffic Safety:
“We’re in unprecedented territories. Our fatalities are 40 percent ahead of where they were at this time last year. We are fully 50 fatalities ahead of where we were at this time in 2020.”
Law enforcement agencies cited nearly 21-hundred unbelted motorists during the campaign, plus 91 citations for child seat violations.
