As more people become vaccinated against COVID-19, summer gatherings and celebrations are happening more and more. On Independence Day and beyond, sparklers and fireworks may be part of those celebrations. 

Mayo Clinic Health System is reminding people to exercise extreme caution when using these devices, as deaths and injuries occur every year.

In 2019, the Consumer Product Safety Commission reported 12 deaths from direct impact of fireworks, and more than 10,000 injuries were treated at emergency departments in the U.S.
