The State Senate took a moment to honor Officer Arik Matson. There’s a provision named for Matson in a proposed public safety bill that would set the maximum sentence from 20 to 25 years for great bodily harm to an officer, and 20 to 30 years if a dangerous weapon is used in the attack. State Senator John Jasinski of Faribault says police risk their lives…

“They don’t do it for the glory, they don’t do it for the money, they do it because they are committed to helping their community, to being there for victims of crime, they do it to make the world around them safer and stronger for everyone.”

Matson was severely injured when he was shot in the head while in the line of duty last year.
