State officials say with expanded income limits, over 600-thousand Minnesota households are eligible for energy assistance as cold weather nears.  Michael Schmitz with the state Commerce Department says about 130 million federal American Rescue dollars still remain, plus…

“We actually expect when Congress passes a budget this fall — which really could be anytime now — we would expect to receive another 115 million or so from that, so we think that we’ll have well over 200 million dollars for energy assistance this year.”

Schmitz says assistance for water and sewer bills is also available for the first time.  Only one combined application is required for that assistance, plus heating help and home weatherization assistance.  For more information,  search online for “Minnesota energy assistance.”
