On 11-10-21 deputies responded to an assault in rural Good Thunder. The victim, 83-
year-old Arnold Duane Lillo, reported being hit in the head multiple times with a hammer by an
acquaintance. Arnold Lillo was able to drive to a neighbor’s house for help after the suspect left
the scene.
The suspect was identified as 34-year-old Brandon Lee Mcmurtrey of Evan MN. Area law
enforcement began the search for Mcmurtrey and his white GMC Sierra pickup and received
additional information that he was armed with a handgun.

Deputies located Mcmurtrey’s pickup in rural Sleepy Eye near County Roads 11 and 25.
Mcmurtrey was alone in the pickup and refused to stop. A pursuit began which eventually went
south on Highway 15 at speeds around 100 mph.

The pursuit ended when Mcmurtrey hit a semi head-on that had stopped on the shoulder of
Highway 15 near 150th Street to yield to emergency vehicles. Mcmurtrey was extricated from
the pickup and remains hospitalized with serious injuries from the crash.

Arnold Lillo remains hospitalized due to the serious injuries he sustained as a result of the assault
but is stable at this time. The crash involving Mcmurtrey’s pickup and the semi remains under
investigation with the assistance of the MN State Patrol.
Assault and fleeing charges against Brandon Mcmurtrey are pending.
