A snow emergency has been declared in Eagle Lake from 6:00 am through 6:00 pm on Sunday. City Administrator Jennifer Bromeland says during an emergency, cars must be removed from the streets until the order is lifted. Cars that are not moved will be towed and their owners will be responsible for any fees associated with that.
Slippery and then reduced visibility may be the biggest challenges for motorists in south central Minnesota, according to Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) staff that are monitoring and preparing for the mixed precipitation forecasted for this weekend. Motorists should prepare for changing weather conditions. Potential impacts include freezing rain and icing into Saturday, with precipitation turning to snow. Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar -- a possible 2020 presidential candidate -- is scheduled to address the Iowa Farmers Union annual convention Saturday in Perry. Klobuchar has been a frequent Iowa visitor over the past couple of years. During a stop in Waterloo in October, Klobuchar said voters are looking for candidates who exhibit "Midwest values" like decency.
The School Sisters of Notre Dame are inviting the public to a weekly silent prayer for immigrants and refugees. Sister Kate Duvall says all faiths and those who are not religious are welcome. The solidarity takes place each Sunday from 4-4:30 at the Good Counsel Chapel.
With Southern Minnesota projected to be blanketed in snow for the weekend, MNDOT officials are urging drivers to use caution out on the roads. Jed Falgren says it is important to drive for the conditions. Falgren also says to remember to turn on headlights when driving in the snow since some automatic lights don't always turn on right away.

A Mankato man is facing charges after police say he kicked his seven-year-old son in the chest and aggressively tried to take the baby his wife was holding from her arms. Dispatchers said that 24-year-old Joshua January could be heard yelling and swearing in the background of the 911 call, and stated, "The whole house could be dead by now." The New Ulm Hy-Vee went above and beyond to reunite a child with a stuffed toy. The company took to social media to ask for help in returning Rocky -- a character from the children's animated series PAW Patrol – with the child that left the dog behind. The grocery store offered a $25 Hy-Vee gift card as a reward, to one person among those that shared the post on Facebook, and posted photos of Rocky sharing his time with various employees until his little person could be found.
