A group of local recreational hockey players held a tournament Aug. 28 and 29 to benefit Echo Food Shelf of Mankato. Final donation tallies eclipsed 800 pounds of food and more than $5,000 in cash contributions.

“We’re thrilled to be able to support ECHO Food Shelf and the outstanding services they provide to people and families in need,” says Steve Neitge, one of the tournament organizers. “I’m happy to report that we far exceeded our donation goals. On behalf of my fellow organizers, I want to extend a sincere thank you to all of our participants and to the many community members who donated.”

The group plans to make the ECHO Food Shelf hockey tournament an annual tradition.
