October is Library Card Sign-up Month at the Blue Earth County Library.  The Blue Earth County Library is joining with the American Library Association (ALA) to remind parents, caregivers, and students that signing up for a library card is the first step on the path to academic achievement and lifelong learning.  It is also a great way for all members of our community to have access to materials and resources that will help them socially, creatively and professionally.

This year, DC’s Wonder Woman is embarking on a mission to champion the power of a library card as Library Card Sign-up Honorary Chair.  In her new role, Wonder Woman will promote the value of libraries and encourage everyone to get their very own library card.  During October only, Blue Earth County Library will host Library Card Sign-up activities including a superhero scavenger hunt for kids, chances to win Wonder Woman Blizzards from DQ, prizes drawing for adults and special book displays.  Come in this month only to have any overdue fines forgiven. It is sure to be a wonderful time!

The Blue Earth County Library, along with libraries everywhere, continue to adapt and expand services to meet the evolving needs of our community, especially in this time of social distancing.  Some of the other things happening at the Mankato branch of the Library include, but not limited to:

  • Maker Monday program – giving patrons a chance to learn new skills
  • Zoom storytime “Live from Lovelace” – complete with guest story readers on Tuesdays
  • New and early literacy programming on Thursdays
  • Monthly Storytime for Grown-ups – a chance to engage with a celebrity storyteller and connect over new ideas and stories
  • Proctoring of exams for older students
  • A wide variety of resources from books to DVDs to eBooks and audiobooks
  • Access to the internet
