Country music took center stage at the 2020 Billboard Music Awards last Wednesday evening. Country fans got to see performances from Kelly Clarkson, Kane Brown, Luke Combs, and a special medley of songs from Garth Brooks to celebrate his Icon Award. Clarkson’s opening performance got the show off to an upbeat and fun start as she covered “Higher Love,” a song made popular in 2019 by its re-release from the late Whitney Houston and the Norweigian DJ Kygo. The American Idol alum was joined on stage by acapella group Pentatonix and musician Sheila E. The cover highlighted the talents of all the performers while maintaining a distinctly 2020 look. Clarkson and company were all socially distanced from each other throughout the song and during the last minute of the performance, a wall of fans singing from home was revealed. Once finished, Clarkson went on to host the award show for the rest of the evening. As with all performances from Clarkson, she absolutely nailed it and brought the house down, despite the lack of ann audience!
