Senate DFL leaders are formally calling for an outside investigation into the handling of a sexual harassment claim made by a former Senate staffer. Democratic Senator Melisa Franzen of Edina strongly supports the move and says:

“It’s imperative that we change how we do this and that we support an independent review with experts that can help us tackle this and hopefully bring us some closure and improve how we operate in the Senate culture.”

The staffer says she was harassed by a one-time campaign manager of Senate Minority Leader Susan Kent. In a letter sent the Senate Secretary on Tuesday, DFL leaders, including Kent, say the investigation is essential in helping “create a process that is both independent and broad so that employees, Members, and all Minnesotans are assured that the Senate is a safe and respectful place to do the people’s work.”
